5. Tap into your natural creativity and create a hand-made gift.
In addition to fostering a deeper connection between you and the recipient, making a gift by hand can also be a calm, meditative experience, centering you and bringing you more fully into the present moment. It can also provide an important outlet for you to express your creativity.

The following excerpt from Joel and Michelle Levey’s book Simple Meditation and Relaxation provides some helpful insights on recognizing your natural creativity:

For those of us who have a strong personal story line that runs, "I’m not creative," or for those who view imagination or visualization as unhealthy practices, the following "self-test" will help illuminate the innately creative nature of the mind. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "not at all," and 10 being "most of the time," ask yourself the following questions:

  • How good am I at worrying about things?
  • How often do I notice judgements and projections in my mind about people – those I know, those I don’t know, and even about myself?
  • How vividly do I dream?
  • How often do I notice that I am lost in my thoughts or daydreams?

If you know how to worry, pass judgment, project your fantasies about people you don’t even know, or get lost in you thoughts, then congratulations – you have experience with the creative powers of the mind.
