For many years I associated the smell of lavender with frilly bath soaps or
scented hand lotions whose flowery aromas were not very appealing to me.
Well, that has all changed as a result of a day trip I took last week. I got the chance
to visit several lavender farms in Sequim, WA, as part of the annual Celebrate Lavender
Festival held there.
After a day of roaming through long rows of the fragrant purple flowers, I found
that I was pleasantly relaxed and calm, despite the long drive in the hot weather.
My experience is consistent with the centuries-old lore about lavender that it has calming
and relaxing properties, and can provide relief for headaches and anxiety.
(Lavender-filled eye pillows and lavender essential oils are just two of the many products
you can use for these purposes.)
I invite you to investigate and experiment with the relaxing and calming properties of
lavender and other herbs and essential oils. You may find something that works for you,
especially in respect to calming the emotions (which are closely connected with our
sense of smell).
In the meantime, you can listen to the following track "Mental
Oasis" from Joel Leveys Self-Guided Relaxation
CD to visit your own field of lavender or any other place of relaxation and rejuvenation
you want to conjure up with your own mental imagery. It only takes about three minutes. Go
ahead and try it:
"The soap thats kept women in hot water for 200 yearsand theyve
loved every minute."
