I imagine that some of you reading this were affected by the massive power blackout
last week in the Midwest and eastern parts of the U.S. and Canada.
Im sure that this event caused a significant amount of stress, especially
since it occurred during the hot summer. It serves as a stark reminder of how dependent we
are on electricity to make our lives more convenient, enjoyable, and safe.
But in the midst of the turmoil and suffering, what impressed me most were the
widespread news reports about the many people who displayed surprising calm,
generosity, and kindness during the stress of the blackout. It was heartening not only
to hear the stories themselves, but also to see that the media reported such good news.
Sometimes we need these reminders of the innate goodness that always resides in
the hearts of people everywhere and especially in ourselves.
Take a moment and listen to this 2-minute track from Joel Leveys Self-Guided
Relaxation CD -- Track 3 ("Magical Moments") -- that serves as a powerful
reminder of our own ability to reconnect with those clear, solid places within ourselves.
