Stay in Touch With Yourself
"Become more aware of the demands you place on yourself, your environment, and on
others to be different from how they are at any moment. Demands are tremendous sources of
stress."
(from Ten Strategies for
Mastering Stress, by Joel Levey and Michelle Levey)
Gentle Re-Entry
by Bryan Brewer, Producer, Self-Guided.com
Here in the U.S., our just passed Labor Day holiday traditionally signals the end of
summer. Even though some warm days may still linger, for many this is a time of
return return from vacation, return to school, return to the beginning of
autumn and another cycle through the seasons.
(Note: In the spirit of a global perspective, I want to acknowledge our readers from
the Southern Hemisphere where winter, not summer, is now drawing to a close.)
As we mark the seasonal change with our re-entry into different places and activities,
its important to remember to be gentle with ourselves as we shift gears.
On his Self-Guided Relaxation CD, Joel Levey reminds us of this with
Track 12 (entitled "Return"), which is helpful to play at the end of a guided
imagery relaxation session:
"Allow your breath to
generate an inner sense of calm and alertness. Imagine this peace of mind pervading and
surrounding you with a field of clarity and power. Allow your breath to infuse you now
with a heartfelt sense of care for life, a sense of love and respect for yourself and for
others. Imagine this heartfelt feeling filling you, flowing through you and surrounding
you with a field ... a contagious field of well-being that you will now carry into the
world."
"Sense a flow or communion between yourself and the world around you now ...
between your sphere of energy-awareness and the ocean of forms, sounds, and information in
which you live. You can now carry this dynamic feeling of deep quiet power into conscious
activity."
Notice how you feel in your body when you read these lines. Pay attention to the quiet
depth and power that is available to you when you remember to slow down and be gentle with
yourself as you re-enter the world.
