Relaxation Tip of the Week
Connect with the World Around You
Take time to be with nature, people, music, and children. Even in the city, noticing
the seasonal changes of the sky or watching peoples faces can be a good harmonizer.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the last full day of summer.
I love summer, but when the calendar turns to fall, I feel a surge of energy to get
things done. I want to complete tasks. I want to store up things for the long winter, in
anticipation of the rebirth of another spring.
Its all part of the balance between the cycle of the seasons.
The annual turn around the wheel of the yearly seasons is subtly and deeply ingrained
in our individual and collective minds.
As Joel and Michelle Levey remind us in their book Living in Balance,
theres an important lesson here about recognizing and achieving balance in our
lives:
"Use the basic truth of the
natural cycle to organize your attention and focus your thinking. With each cycle of the
process, a clearer and deeper sense of wholeness emerges. With each iteration, you deepen
your wisdom of balance by seeing how each part is included in the whole, and how
the whole is inseparable from its many parts. Each circle defines a whole: a whole breath;
a whole day; a whole lunar cycle, or year, or lifetime."
"As you begin to think deeply about the unique aspects of each phase of the cycle,
you begin to see a complete view of the whole system. You begin to recognize that the
rhythms of energy and change within you and around you are deeply related. In each phase
of the cycle, you begin to see every part of the system in its balanced
relationship to a larger wholeness, and you begin to feel that the same forces
that are alive within you are alive and unfolding in the world around you."
I hope that the new season of fall brings you richness and balance in your life.
"We dance around in a ring and suppose,
but the Secret sits in the middle and knows."
