Relaxation Tip of the Week
Faith
Faith allows us to reach out and take refuge in our connectedness to a larger,
deeper reality and Source than our tiny personal selves. By remembering to open
our hearts and minds to affirm the link in spirit between our personal identities and our
universal nature, we shift the center of gravity in our lives more toward authentic
balance.
Taking Refuge by Bryan Brewer, Producer, Self-Guided.com
"Bombarded
by the intensity and complexity of our life, it is easy to feel overwhelmed: 'How
can I possibly manage this situation?' We all need help, guidance, and inspiration
to find our way and to stay the course at times when we may become distracted or
disheartened. Incorporating the practice of taking refuge into the beginning of a
meditation session offers a sense of deep connection and groundedness
that supercharges your practice with inspiration and greater strength than your small,
limited self."
This quote from Wisdom at Work,
by Joel and Michelle Levey, is a good reminder to call on the spiritual resources that are
available to us in various ways. Joel and Michelle go on to describe a simple
meditation that focuses on receiving and radiating spiritual strength.
The three main ways we can turn to sources for spiritual strength include:
First, we take refuge in the living
examples of great teachers who have kept the tradition alive and guided others
in its ways.
Second, we take refuge in the inspiring body of spiritual
teachings that offer practical principles, techniques, and advice on how to live
a truly righteous and balanced life.
Third, we take refuge in the fellow hip with the spiritual
community of kindred souls who walk the path with us, and who are a source of
companionship and support along the way.
May you find healthy ways to take refuge in your teachers, teachings, and community
this holiday season.
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where
his influence stops." -- Henry Brooks Adams, The Education of Henry Adams
