A recent study made public last month by Stanford researchers David Spiegel, M.D., and Sandra Sephton, Ph.D., suggests that getting a good night's sleep may be an important factor in the link between mental well-being and cancer recovery.

Previous research has established that cancer patients who have strong social networks fare better than those with weaker social support. The new study suggests that how well you sleep can seriously affect the balance of two important hormones -- melatonin and cortisol -- connected with the normal sleep cycle.
