Relaxation Tip of the Week
Stay in Touch with Yourself
Become more aware of the demands you place on
yourself, your environment, and on others to be different from how they are at any moment.
Demands are tremendous sources of stress.
I know that sometimes I get caught up in the "busy-ness" of daily
life and I forget to relax.
After a while, a tense muscle or an angry feeling will remind me.
The trick, of course, is to remember to relax before the pain or anger arises.
Sometimes it can be as simple as remembering to notice my breath. I
breathe in ... and I breathe out. I breathe in relaxation ... and I breathe out tension.
In their recent book A Moment to Relax, Joel and Michelle Levey talk of the
practical value of frequently relaxing:
"Like most problems in our
lives, tensions start out small and then accumulate and grow. But if you frequently relax
and let go of tension throughout the day, you will find yourself both more calm and more
energetic at day's end. Your ability to take in stride the unexpected changes and
challenges of life will increase, as will your capacity for bringing greater patience and
compassion to your relationships. And a peaceful, balanced state even promotes good health
and a stronger immune system."
Perhaps you can find a simple way to remember to relax more often.
"Breathe out and let yourself soar to the ends
of the universe; breathe in and bring the cosmos back inside."
-- Morihei Ueshiba, martial artist and founder of Aikido
