Connect with Others
Practice stress-reducing communications: clarify
what you hear by paraphrasing ("I understand you to be saying ...") and active
listening. Use "I want" instead of "I need," and "I choose
to," rather than "I have to." Feel the difference in your mental attitude
and your body when you do this.

Stress, by Joel Levey and Michelle Levey)
Recognizing Each Other
by Bryan Brewer, Producer, Self-Guided.com
This coming Sunday is celebrated as
Mother's Day in the U.S. It is a time when I am reminded of the tremendous debt
that each of us owes to our own mother -- the precious gift of life itself.
The web of relationships among one's family, where
each person has a unique place, can be a generous source of strength for living
one's daily life.
In their book Living in Balance: A Dynamic Approach
for Creating Harmony and Wholeness in a Chaotic World, Joel and Michelle Levey share
a simple exercise to help us stay connected to this source. You can practice this
technique with your spouse or partner, with any other person, or even by yourself.
Heres another practice to
deepen your connection. Sit quietly across from one another. Like mirrors deeply
reflecting each other, see in each other your parents, grandparents, and
ancestors. See, too, the generational cascade of traditions, attitudes, beliefs,
customs, and habits that help or harm. See in yourself, and in each other, the
miraculous moment of your conception. See yourselves swimming in the wombs of
your mothers. See yourselves as tiny children, wide eyed in a wonder-full world. See in
yourself and in each other, the potentials for becoming a wise old man, or a wise old
woman. See in yourselves and each other, the seeds of influence that will bear fruit in
the lives of others for countless generations to come.
Quietly, connectedly, come into harmony within this place where
your two streams of being meet. See and feel the connection. Then, from this place, share
your visions for the future, your hopes and your fears, your lifes greatest joys and
your sorrows. Perhaps you might simply want to exchange the following: What
is true for me right now is....
Best wishes for a Happy Mother's Day.

Quote of the Week
"From every human being there arises a light
that reaches straight to heaven. And when two souls destined to be together find each
other, their streams of light flow together and a single, brighter light goes forth from
their united being."
