Relaxation Tip of the Week
Be Open to Learning About Yourself

Use your own distress to teach yourself to be more patient, caring, and compassionate toward yourself and others.

(from Ten Strategies for Mastering Stress, by Joel Levey and Michelle Levey)

Lifelong Learning
by Bryan Brewer, Producer, Self-Guided.com

"And the hits just keep on coming." That's a phrase -- taken from pop radio DJ talk -- that I sometimes tell myself when I keep getting confronted with new challenges in life. (Yes, they keep happening, regardless of how long you've lived.)

Of course, I eventually welcome those challenges as opportunities to learn something new about myself.

It's part of the natural cycle of moving back and forth between different zones of living and learning as described by Joel and Michelle Levey.

In their book Living in Balance: A Dynamic Approach for Creating Harmony and Wholeness in a Chaotic World, the Leveys discuss this process:

"The learning adventure of our lives continually reminds us that balanced living is achieved by seeking challenges when we are bored, and cultivating skills when we are challenged. It’s an on-going dance."

"Imagine a time in your life when you have exactly the skills and capabilities that you need to meet life’s challenges. Things couldn’t be better and you are in 'The Zone.' And then, inevitably, things change. The pressures and demands upon you increase. What’s the strategy to get back into 'The Zone'? Yes, learn and develop new skills to meet the challenge. Take a class, get some coaching from a mentor, ask a peer to cross-train you on that program you haven’t learned but need for the project. With learning, you find yourself moving back into 'The Zone'."

Getting assistance from a teacher or a mentor can help you get back into "The Zone" more easily and quickly than otherwise doing it all yourself.

In fact, Joel and Michelle Levey are now offering "tele-mentoring" services, where you can connect with them personally on a regular basis to get coaching and guidance to help you achieve your goals. See the "Featured Service" section below for details.

Best wishes on your journey of lifelong learning.

Quote of the Week

"Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative place is where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of intuition. You can't get there by bus, only hard work, risking, and by not quite knowing what you're doing. What you'll discover will be wonderful: yourself."
